Slapped by his teacher, he explains why he didn't do the assignment

The teacher slapped one of the students hard and said, “Why didn’t you write the essay?”

The student calmly replied, “Teacher! I wasn’t convinced by what I read to write about it.”

The teacher asked, “Why weren’t you convinced?”

The student responded, “Because I couldn’t find the truth in what was written.”

The teacher questioned, “How so?”

The student answered:

“Teacher, the essay says: ‘My country is a rich country.’ But our house is made of mud, my clothes, my school bag, and all my school supplieseven my books—come from charity.

The essay says: ‘My country is a land of oil and gas.’ But we have neither gas to cook with nor oil, and my mother still cooks over firewood.

The essay says: ‘My country is full of blessings.’ But I have never seen these blessings coming; rather, I see them disappearing into the pockets of others.

The essay says: ‘My country is the cradle of history, heroism, and civilization.’ But a question lingers in my mind—why does my country remain in the cradle, always talking about the past, while others grow and progress? My country is poor yet still sings about its past glories.

And the essay says: ‘The people of my nation are equal in rights and duties.’ But I have not found my right as a human being or as a citizen of this country.

Teacher! I do not want to lie to myself. That’s why I didn’t write my assignment.

I love my country, but my country has been stolen—its justice and the rights of its people have been robbed. My right is lost, my future is uncertain.

My country is full of wealth, yet my father is still searching for our daily bread in alleys and streets!”
