Shariah Compliance Commission
Ismail Sabri Yaakob |
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the regulation of the halal industry in the country can be consolidated through the establishment of a shariah compliance commission, The Malaysian Insight reported.
In his keynote address at the Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Lecture today, Ismail said currently, the existing regulatory proposal is more limited to the Islamic financial sector through Bank Negara Malaysia and the Securities Commission, while the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) regulates the halal industry.
The Bera MP added, the establishment of a shariah compliance commission for the domestic halal industry can make Malaysia the main reference model for the global halal economy.
Rafidah Aziz |
Commenting on the said proposal, UMNO's veteran politician Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz said the setting up of a shariah compliance commission is a waste of taxpayer money.
The former international trade and industry minister was in the opinion that the current government lacks national compass in leading the country.
