LAWYERS FOR LIBERTY executive director Latheefa Beebi Koya is the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner, replacing Mohd Shukri Abdull.
Her two-year contract takes effect on 1 June 2019, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Putrajaya, said in a statement today, Tuesday 4 June 2019.

The PMO said that His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al Musta'in Billah had consented to Shukri's request to have his contract as the MACC chief commissioner shortened.
Shukri was appointed to a two-year contract on 17 May 2018.
"The government records its appreciation to Mohd Shukri Abdull, who has made tremendous contributions to the nation during his tenure as the chief commissioner," the statement read.
The PMO also said that in line with subsection 5(1) of the MACC Act, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had consented to the appointment of Latheefa Koya as the new head of the anti-graft agency.
The appointment was among new and important measures taken in line with the process to reform government institutions.
