CJ Maimun retires, Zaid Ibrahim expresses his disappointment
B R I E F
Former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim was reported as saying today, Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, who retires on 1 July 2025, and Federal Court judge Puan Nalini Pathmanathan, who is set to step down in August, have been steadfast bulwarks against creeping authoritarianism and political pressure.
As quoted by Malaysiakini, Zaid said it “stings” that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim appears unwilling to grant even a modest extension to Tengku Maimun, given her exemplary defence of judicial independence.
