It Must Have Been Loved
Small thing that changed a Hollywood film star's life
THE INSPIRATION
A Simple Practice That Changed His Life
Many years ago, it was reported that a romantic and handsome actor came across a practice so simple, yet so powerful—it quietly transformed the way he relates to the world.
Since then, he has made it a habit. Every time he meets any living being—whether a person, an animal, even an insect—he will pause for a moment and silently think:
“I want you to be happy.” That’s it.
Not judgment. Not analysis. Not a quick reaction. Just a quiet, sincere wish.
And when this thought comes first, everything shifts: The tone of the interaction. The energy. The connection. The outcome.
This isn’t some theory. It’s something, he said, practiced over and over. And yes—sometimes it’s incredibly hard. Especially when life throws you into conflict. When you're hurt. Triggered. Frustrated. Afraid.
But even then, especially then, if you catch it—just for a second—you can pause. You can choose a different response.
You start to see the anger, the tension, the fear… and you recognize: This is ignorance. This is misunderstanding. This is pain—not just theirs, but maybe yours too.
And in that awareness, a door opens. You can soften. You can let go. You can transform it into love.
And once again—quietly, within—say: “I want you to be happy.”
"Try it. And watch how something so small… can change your entire life," said Richard Gere.
