Judge Puan Zuhrina Nor, as reported by Malaysian official news agency Bernama, rejected the appeal filed by Encik Ariz Ramli, 40, better known as Caprice, in August against the court’s decision in a defamation suit brought by Ebit over seven allegedly defamatory statements made in podcasts and video clips published by the influencer.
The court also ordered Caprice to pay RM20,000 in costs.
On 17 August, the Sessions Court ordered Caprice to pay Ebit RM200,000 in damages for defamation.
The court ordered Caprice to pay RM50,000 each in general, exemplary, compensatory and aggravated damages, as well as RM20,000 in costs.
Zuhrina also ordered Caprice to publish an apology to Ebit on any social media platform under his control within 48 hours of the court order being sealed.
Ebit filed the suit on 29 September, 2023, claiming that recordings published by Caprice implied, among other things, that he had committed sexual harassment and exploitation, was irresponsible and was exploiting religion for personal gain.
Ebit was represented by lawyers Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader and Puan Fatin Izyan Mazlan while Caprice was represented by Encik Rezan Ezra Mosinal.
