Neil Sedaka, American singer and songwriter, dies age 86

American singer and songwriter Neil Sedaka, who had a string of chart-topping hits in the 1960s and 1970s with songs like “Laughter in the Rain”, has died at age 86, AFP reported that his family said yesterday, Friday 27 February 2026.

Over a career spanning six decades, Sedaka scored three No. 1 hits in the US and also wrote chart-topping songs for other artists.

“Our family is devastated by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather,” Sedaka’s family posted on his Facebook page, describing him as a “true rock and roll legend”.

Also published by Malaysian leading news portal FMT, no cause of death was given.

Born in New York, Sedaka’s musical career began in the late 1950s. One of his first successes was writing “Stupid Cupid” for one of the era’s most popular US female vocalists, Connie Francis.

Sedaka, an accomplished pianist, became a star in his own right in the early 1960s, with pop hits including “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do”


.His popularity faded in the second half the 1960s as bands like The Beatles came into fashion, but it revived in the 1970s with easy-listening favorites like “Laughter in the Rain” and “Bad Blood”.

Sedaka’s “Love Will Keep Us Together” became a No. 1 hit for the husband-and-wife recording duo Captain & Tennille in 1975.

Sedaka had dropped out of the charts by the 1980s. He remained a showbiz fixture and kept performing even as commercial successes waned, said AFP.

What Mahathir expected did not happen Initially, Mahathir Mohamad thought his party – PPBM (Bersatu) – could  morph  into a new version of UMNO. After all, it was him who brilliantly destroyed the original UMNO in 1988 and created “UMNO Baru” (the current UMNO version 2.0). But unlike in 1988, Mr. Mahathir had quit UMNO to form PPBM on 8 September 2016, and was no longer in charge of UMNO. OVERCONCENTRATION OF A MALAY POPULATION MAKES SHAH ALAM A GHOST CITY, SAYS ANALYST

Shah Alam City YESTERDAY, FMT reported that the capital city of Selangor had become very quiet, slow and almost no business, many buildings unoccupied, which one of them only utilised by less than ten staff of a company. Some factories closed down, businesses from petty traders to big timers closed shops for the past six months and so on. Even foreign business people from Indonesia and Pakistan decided to go back to their respective countries or moved to other places. A prominent business analyst, in his blog wrote that one of the reasons for the downfall of Shah Alam was the government's policy in overconcentrating a Malay population in the said city. A lawyer's personal opinion on Tommy Thomas' controversial book

  Read it while you still can REVIEW - *"My Story: Justice in the Wilderness" by Tommy Thomas* SPOILERS (Then again, it's a memoir, so does that really count? But you've been warned). Well I'll cut to the chase. I loved the book. But I think a huge part of why I loved it is because I also happen to be a lawyer, a litigator, and a keen follower of Malaysian politics. It doesn't hurt either that Tommy Thomas' values for the most part, align with mine. It's an honest book, in the sense that he really doesn't bother mincing his words or sparing anyone's feelings (that should be apparent by now, given the number of people who have lodged complaints, filed police reports, and threatened to sue him over the book). Reading it gives you the impression that Tommy Thomas really doesn't care (or if you're French, DGAF).
