Peter Cklamovski should concentrate on his job, instead of talking like a politician
Still reeling from allegations of ‘doctored documentation’ involving the citizenship of seven footballers, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) continues to face ridicule – this time from national coach Peter Cklamovski, said news portal TWENTYTWO 13, as published by Yahoo News today, Friday 10 October 2025.
The portal further wrote that the Australian said the "mess" that resulted in Fifa sanctioning the national body and seven ‘heritage’ footballers is FAM’s doing, not Tunku Ismail Ibrahim. He also revealed Tunku Ismail, the Regent of Johor, was the one responsible for securing funds from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar had allocated RM15 million of taxpayers’ money to the national team under Budget 2025, with another RM15 million expected from the private sector. It remains to be seen if football will continue to enjoy such generous allocations when the prime minister tables Budget 2026 this evening.
After watching his side defeat Laos 3-0 in an AFC 2027 Asian Cup qualifying match in Vientiane last night, Cklamovski praised Tunku Ismail’s contributions, saying: “Without TMJ (Tunku Ismail), Malaysian football would have finished a long time ago.”
He also criticised the poor state of Malaysian pitches, comparing them unfavourably to the field conditions in Laos.
“The pitch condition was not easy. You can see the pitch bobbling around. But that’s actually better than the Malaysian Super League pitches. So, the players adapted well. They controlled the game well. We found good spaces and could have scored more goals.
“We will analyse the game, work out what we need to improve. But with all the noise outside, our environment at the moment, we controlled what we can control.”
Cklamovski went on to defend Tunku Ismail, owner of Johor Darul Ta’zim, while taking a swipe at FAM.
“From what I’m told, there’s a lot of negativity towards TMJ, which is unfair and unwarranted. He’s a visionary leader, and without him, Malaysian football would have been finished long ago.
“Who gets the funding and support from the prime minister? It’s TMJ, not FAM. Who arranges the chartered flights, ensures we prepare professionally, and organises our logistics? It’s TMJ. The support he gives us to perform at our best is immense.
“All the mess with Fifa, the administrative errors – that’s FAM, not TMJ. My message to all Malaysians is this: without TMJ, Malaysian football is finished. I’ll leave it at that.”
Cklamovski also thanked the travelling Malaysian fans for their support and praised his players for their commitment and discipline.
“Tonight’s match was for the Malaysian people. We wanted to give them hope and inspiration through our football and make them believe in something special. I’m proud of the players for that.
“I also want to thank the Ultras and the travelling supporters. They helped us immensely. They saw, as did millions at home, the passion, commitment, and discipline the players showed for the national team.”
Last month, Fifa said FAM had submitted ‘doctored documentation’ involving seven players – Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Tomás Garcés, Rodrigo Julián Holgado, Imanol Javier Machuca, João Vitor Brandão Figueiredo, Jon Irazábal Iraurgui and Hector Alejandro Hevel Serrano – ahead of Malaysia’s Asian Cup qualifying match against Vietnam on June 10.
After the 4-0 win over Vietnam, Cklamovski had claimed that internal issues, political interference, and other obstacles were hindering the national team’s progress. Then FAM president Datuk Joehari Ayub declined to comment on the coach’s remarks, saying the matter should be addressed by Cklamovski himself to avoid speculation.
FAM has since announced plans to appeal against Fifa’s sanctions, which include a fine of CHF350,000 on the national body and 12-month suspensions for the seven players. Malaysia will host Laos at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, on 14 October.
