UMNO needs to clarify the perception of being involved in an attempt to overthrow Tuanku Muhriz

Barisan Nasional (BN) needs to strengthen its efforts to explain the real situation regarding the controversy surrounding the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, before the nomination day for the Melaka State Election (PRN Melaka).

As reported by Malay-language newspaper and news portal Harian Metro, UMNO Vice-President Datuk Seri Dr Johari Abdul Ghani said that the action must be carried out comprehensively to overcome any misunderstandings hurled against BN following the proclamation to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

He, who is also the Federal Territories BN Chairman, said that the same period could also be used to provide explanations regarding any other arising issues before BN enters the election arena.

"We need to explain and let the people know that the party wanting to remove Tuanku Muhriz is actually not UMNO. It needs to be explained properly.

"(BN) must explain why the proclamation (to depose Tuanku Muhriz) was made and the difference between a proclamation and a dismissal so that the public understands the procedure involved."

"Many misunderstandings will arise and cause various problems to emerge if the public does not understand (the procedure in question)," he said at a press conference after officiating Bayu Seafood by White N Black in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said this when commenting on the possibility that the controversy surrounding Tuanku Muhriz's position could affect Barisan Nasional's (BN) prospects during the Melaka state election (PRN Melaka), which is scheduled to begin on 31 October.

On 17 September, Chief Minister (Menteri Besar) Datuk Ismail Lasim was reported to have confirmed the proclamation of the abdication of Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, after it was decided unanimously by the members of the State Executive Council (MMK) two days prior.

Following that, the State Secretary of Negeri Sembilan has been requested to carry out the gazettement of the said proclamation in accordance with existing regulations.

The confirmation was made a day after several portals published a statement on behalf of the MMK Council of Members regarding the proclamation of the election of Tuanku Nadzaruddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja'afar.

The proclamation in question was made in accordance with Article 11 of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959 (UUTKNS 1959), dated 19 April, which has been signed and sealed by the legitimate Ruling Chiefs (Undang Luak) and is in force.

The statement mentioned that the proclamation was orderly and perfect, in accordance with UUTKNS 1959.

Meanwhile, Johari said the list of candidates who will represent BN in the Melaka state election will be finalized by the Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and assisted by the Chief Minister of Melaka Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

"Ab Rauf is more knowledgeable about the suitable candidates to be featured in the Melaka State Election (PRN) and he will communicate directly with Ahmad Zahid," said Johari, who is also the Member of Parliament for Titiwangsa.
