Referrong to news published by AsiaOne, Malaysian English daily Malay Mail reported on Sunday, 18 October 2026, a man has been left distraught after learning that his mother was allegedly dragged 1.5km in a hit-and-run that ended on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), Singapore.
“It’s one thing to be involved in a car accident, but my mum was dragged so far after being hit,” the man surnamed Huang told Shin Min Daily News, quoted AsiaOne.
“My mum was in a very bad state, she was trapped under the vehicle. She must’ve suffered a lot of pain and felt helpless.”
The 77-year-old woman died following a hit-and-run accident along PIE towards Changi Airport on Friday (16 October) morning.
A minibus driver, 66, fled the scene but was later arrested for driving without due care and attention causing death.
According to Shin Min, the woman was hit by a minibus at the intersection of Jurong West Street 61 and Jurong West Avenue 4.
When Huang didn’t see his mum at home that morning, he thought that she had left for work.
But when the police called to inform him that his mum had died in an accident on the PIE, Huang rushed down to the scene.
“She couldn’t have run onto the expressway on her own,” he said.
“After speaking with the police, I learnt that my mother was struck near our home and dragged all the way to the expressway.”
As the only child, Huang shared that his family has been left heartbroken by the tragedy.
He also questioned how his mum had ended up trapped under the vehicle and why the driver did not stop driving after the accident.
The minibus driver has yet to contact Huang and his family. When asked if he’d forgive the driver, Huang said that he has mixed feelings.
