No parliamentary constituency sidelined in the distribution of allocations, says Anwar
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that no parliamentary constituency is sidelined in the distribution of development allocations, as the government always takes into account the needs of the people in every area, Malay daily Harian Metro today.
Anwar stated that this matter was decided by the Cabinet so that all parliamentary constituencies, including those represented by the opposition, are given proper consideration in the distribution of the allocations.
He said that, based on records, no party has been marginalized at either the Parliamentary constituency or state level.
He added, citing Terengganu as an example, that the total Federal allocation to the opposition-administered state increased from RM6 billion during the previous administration to RM8.2 billion in 2027 under the MADANI Government.
"During the previous administration, when the your party was in power, the total Federal allocation to Terengganu was RM6 billion.
"Under the MADANI Government, we are increasing that allocation to RM8.2 billion in 2027. Is there a reduction? No, in fact, the allocation has been increased.
"That is why I always make comparisons with the year 2022, because the increase in the allocation is substantial, from RM6 billion to RM8.2 billion. Where is the discrimination?" he said.
He said this during the Questions To Ministers Time (Prime Minister Questions Time) session in the Dewan Rakyat today, while replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN-Besut).
Questions regarding the formula and criteria considered by the government in determining the distribution amount of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to each parliamentary constituency, to ensure that the basic needs of local citizens remain guaranteed and receive appropriate attention.
Anwar explained that development allocations are channeled based on the needs of each parliamentary constituency and are not given directly to Members of Parliament (MPs).
He said the issue being raised is why the allocation is not channeled through the MPs.
"I have already answered that the allocation is channeled to their respective parliamentary constituencies."
"The allocation provided for the Besut Parliament constituency is for Besut," he said.
Anwar said the implementation of development projects also takes local needs into account and is subject to the approval of the state government and relevant ministries.
He said the same approach is also applied in parliamentary constituencies represented by the government party, where development allocations are not necessarily channeled through the elected representative.
He said, therefore, there is no impression that opposition-held areas and their residents are being sidelined.
"Must every project be channeled through a Member of Parliament? No. In fact, even in areas represented by the government party, development allocations are not necessarily channeled through a Member of Parliament," he said.
Anwar said that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has been given the responsibility to lead negotiations for the memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding allocations for opposition Members of Parliament.
"I have already said, if it is signed today, I will approve it tomorrow. If they do not want to negotiate, that is not my problem," he said.
