DAP fails to fulfill promises despite holding power in the Malaysia Madani Unity Government
Through social media, a Malaysian voter of Chinese descent shared five reasons why the Chinese community has grown tired of DAP and will not vote for the party—specifically in Pulau Pinang (also known as Penang)—in the upcoming general election.
First, the mysterious death of the late Teoh Beng Hock, an aide to a DAP lawmaker, while at the SPRM, also known as MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) office during the Barisan Nasional administration.
Although DAP has apologized to Teoh's family and expressed readiness to pay compensation, that is not what the late aide's family is asking for.
Instead, Teoh's family demands a transparent investigation and that the MACC officers responsible for the suspected murder be brought to justice.
Second, DAP's failure to secure Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) recognition from the Madani government, despite DAP holding the highest number of parliamentary seats within the unity government coalition.
The Chinese voter considers that DAP has lied to the Chinese community in Malaysia.
Third, DAP's failure to prevent Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from simultaneously holding the portfolio of Finance Minister. The voter stated that one of the reasons former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib tun Abdul Razak was ousted was due to also holding the Finance Minister post, which left him highly exposed to abuse of power. Now, Anwar is doing the exact same thing.
Fourth, DAP's failure as a majority party within the Madani government to abolish SOSMA (Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012).
The voter views it as an oppressive act where the police are permitted to arrest citizens arbitrarily without needing an arrest warrant or adhering to regular procedures. There are fears it will be abused for political motives and the personal interests of those in power.
Fifth, excessive tax hikes in Penang. As an example, parking fees have doubled from 40 sen to 80 sen per hour. Various taxes have been increased, including residential assessment rates (cukai pintu).
In return, the Chinese voter asks what the people are actually getting from these high tax collections.
"Where is the revenue from these tax collections going?" he questioned.

This voter's view is believed to represent more than half of the Chinese voters in Malaysia who feel cheated and disappointed.
