Annuar Musa says he's not interested to return to UMNO
Referring to a press conference in Kuala Selangor today, local media reported former UMNO veteran Tan Sri Annuar Musa said he has no interest in returning to the party, even though it has opened its doors to all former members through its Rumah Bangsa initiative.
The former UMNO Supreme Council member, who joined PAS in June 2023, said there is no reason for him to leave the Islamic party, which he joined after carefully considering his political struggle, particularly concerning the Malays and Islam.
“I feel PAS is my future. There is no reason for me to leave. My struggle is important to me, not party positions. PAS has provided sufficient room for my personal struggle, and I am grateful for that,” FMT quoted him as saying today.
Annuar said he was confident that other former UMNO members who joined PAS would also remain with the party. “As far as I’ve heard, none of them want to return,” he said.
He claimed that friends and senior mno UMNO leaders had personally invited him to rejoin the party, but he declined because it is still under the control of a “certain person”.
“I find that UMNO is not guided by principles of struggle. Even now, this person determines the party’s direction. This is very different from PAS, where the syura council takes priority,” he said.
UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has stated the party’s doors are “unconditionally” open to former members, and that “all past mistakes and differences will be forgiven” in the spirit of Ramadan.
He said the Rumah Bangsa task force, chaired by party vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, would coordinate the re-entry process for former members wishing to return.
