Johor state election: 63.13% turnout as of 4pm

A total of 2.73 million people are eligible to vote in the Johor election, which was called after the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on 1 June 2026.

FMT reported just now, the voter turnout in the Johor state election stood at 63.13% as of 4pm, with nearly 1.7 million people going to the ballot boxes so far, according to the Election Commission.

The turnout has far surpassed the 54.9% recorded in the 2022 Johor polls, the lowest for a state election in recent history.

The EC said constituencies with the highest turnout so far were Semarang (72.6%), Sri Medan (71.6%) and Sedili (70.5%), while the lowest were recorded in Penggaram (56.5%), Bentayan (56.1%), and Perling (56.1%).

At the same point during the 2022 election, the voter turnout stood at 49.63%.

Polling centres across all 56 state constituencies will be closed by 6pm.

The EC yesterday projected turnout for the Johor election at about 70%, citing strong public interest during the campaign period, which reflected enthusiasm to cast ballots.

A total of 2.73 million people are eligible to vote in the Johor election, which was called after the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on 1 June 2026.

Although the assembly had been due to automatically dissolve in April next year, speculation on an early election had intensified in May after several politicians publicly spoke about the prospect of early polling, while others laid claim to seats expected to be contested.

Barisan Nasional formed the state government after winning 40 of the 56 seats contested in the Johor election in March 2022.

Pakatan Harapan won 12 seats, Perikatan Nasional three, and Muda one.
