Will Bersama "bersama-sama" Bersatu?
What I think about Rafizi’s new Party, BERSAMA
By the way, that was me signing my application to join PPBM or Bersatu back in 2016.
I was excited to welcome a new party that can reset Malaysia after Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak’s 1MDB.
I was probably as excited as some of you planning to join Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli’s Bersama political party.
My PPBM membership was 000068. Talk about being one of the first.
Najib lost PRU14 in 2018 bringing the collapse of UMNO dominance since Merdeka.
Najib said UMNO would be dominant for 1000 years but in reality UMNO lasted just 61 years. Hubris was Najib’s downfall.
Tun M was at the helm and I was excited, finally we would see progress.
I was wrong.
The constant pressuring to let Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim become PM finally caused the coalition to collapse. Gentlemanly Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigned.
People say Tun M is drunk for power. I often correct them that this old man resigned as Prome Minister twice. TWICE.
What do I feel about Rafizi’s new party, BERSAMA..? I am on the fence on this.
Rafizi lost in his tussle for PKR Vice Presidency against Anwar’s daughter last year. Nik Nazmi laughably lost his Setiawangsa leadership to an actor cum comedian, Datuk Afdlin Shauki. Comedic indeed.
After both of them lost, they would already know that their political life in PKR would almost certainly be over.
Had they resigned before losing, their sacrifice would be more credible or meaningful. Now it was just facing the political realities and trying to stay relevant.
Rafizi when he was PKR strongman is responsible for strengthening Anwar’s family legacy and power within PKR.
‘Langkah Kajang’ was orchestrated by Rafizi to oust Selangor Menteri Besat to pave the way for Anwar to become ADUN and MB.
It is ironic to see Rafizi’s getting a dose of his own medicine being ousted in PKR Vice Presidency against Anwar’s own daughter. The chicken has finally come home to roost.
Would I vote Bersama if it was pitted against PKR..? I probably would.
But I don't think Rafizi or Nazmi is our country’s saviour. They sucked up to Anwar til they were ousted.
I am apolitical now. I don't want to see any political party being too powerful.
I hope Bersama will bring something new and lasting. But I doubt we will see anything new.
I have seen PPBM going downhill after winning.
Bersama would probably attract disgruntled PKR members and leeches same way PPBM attracts former disgruntled UMNO leeches.
The love for money and power is too strong. I have seen it time and time again.
Good luck to Bersama. But luck can only do so much.
