Focus on our real enemy, Tuan Ibrahim urges PN colleagues

Don't play with fire

One of Malaysian most popular news portals, FMT reported yesterday, the PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has urged his Perikatan Nasional (PN) colleagues to put an end to the friendly fire that has erupted over the coalition’s chairmanship.

Tuan Ibrahim said all PN components should focus on their actual political rivals instead of bickering among themselves.

“All parties must stop issuing public statements that only worsen the situation and to instead prioritise internal mechanisms to prudently resolve any turmoil.

“The people are banking on PN. The unity that we have built all this while would surely unnerve and be envied by our political rivals, especially Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional.

“Therefore, let us not give our enemies ammo to divide us. Differences of opinion must be managed in a mature manner to preserve our unity,” FMT quoted Tuan Ibrahim as saying in a statement.

Tuan Ibrahim, who is also the Pahang opposition leader, said the reality of political cooperation is that parties will not be able to get everything they want and compromises have to be made.

“However, mutual respect and holding fast to the basis of our cooperation is key to our collective strength.

“Stop issuing statements that hurt the feelings of allies. Stop stabbing friends in the back or even taking delight when an ally falters. Respect the decisions of allies and be ready to receive reprimands and other views with an open heart,” he said.

Earlier yesterday, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin claimed that his party and PAS have agreed to abolish the PN chairman’s post as part of the coalition’s restructuring at a meeting held at his home more than a week ago.

Muhyiddin, who resigned as the PN chairman on 1 January 2026, said they also agreed that the PN presidential council headed by Bersatu would be the highest decision-making body in the coalition, while an executive council led by PAS would handle the administrative aspects.

However, Tuan Ibrahim denied Muhyiddin’s claim, saying the matter was not even discussed during the meeting on 16 January.

In a separate letter as claimed by the portal, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party’s stand is that the presidential council would only be an advisory body, with the Supreme Council to remain the coalition’s executive decision maker.

Two PAS Youth leaders later took aim at Muhyiddin, with the central youth wing’s chief, Encik Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, mocking the Bersatu president’s effort to abolish the PN chairmanship.

Tuan Ibrahim warned that PN’s rivals are happy to see the internal squabbling as they ultimately want to see the coalition fall apart.

He called for all PN leaders to close ranks and foster a closer relationship with one another, especially if they want the coalition to win the support of Malaysians in the next general election.

“Some issue statements that are good and help to strengthen unity; that’s important to clear up confusion and support party decisions.

“However, there are some who are better off not writing their statements if they only serve to confuse (PN) members. Ask yourself truthfully: what position should we all take for the sake of this alliance,” he said.

MAHATHIR MAY REJOIN UMNO

What Mahathir expected did not happen Initially, Mahathir Mohamad thought his party – PPBM (Bersatu) – could  morph  into a new version of UMNO. After all, it was him who brilliantly destroyed the original UMNO in 1988 and created “UMNO Baru” (the current UMNO version 2.0). OVERCONCENTRATION OF A MALAY POPULATION MAKES SHAH ALAM A GHOST CITY, SAYS ANALYST

Shah Alam City YESTERDAY, FMT reported that the capital city of Selangor had become very quiet, slow and almost no business, many buildings unoccupied, which one of them only utilised by less than ten staff of a company. Some factories closed down, businesses from petty traders to big timers closed shops for the past six months and so on. Even foreign business people from Indonesia and Pakistan decided to go back to their respective countries or moved to other places. A lawyer's personal opinion on Tommy Thomas' controversial book

  Read it while you still can REVIEW - *"My Story: Justice in the Wilderness" by Tommy Thomas* SPOILERS (Then again, it's a memoir, so does that really count? But you've been warned). Well I'll cut to the chase. I loved the book. But I think a huge part of why I loved it is because I also happen to be a lawyer, a litigator, and a keen follower of Malaysian politics. It doesn't hurt either that Tommy Thomas' values for the most part, align with mine. It's an honest book, in the sense that he really doesn't bother mincing his words or sparing anyone's feelings (that should be apparent by now, given the number of people who have lodged complaints, filed police reports, and threatened to sue him over the book). Reading it gives you the impression that Tommy Thomas really doesn't care (or if you're French, DGAF).
