The loud but empty UMNO AGM

Delegates were good listeners, no critical questions raised

"That’s what the UMNO AGM was, in essence, all about. Just listen to the speeches. Loud and empty," former member of UMNO, PKR, DAP, Kita and now an UMNO member again, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim said yesterday.

Commenting via his Facebook account yesterday, the former law minister under the tenure of prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's administration added: "Some indulged in bravado; “ we are not afraid of DAP; why should we? “An empty rhetoric that belies their own insecurity. They were angry with DAP, with PAS, and everyone else not of their ilk." 

"They tried hard to explain why they were working with DAP. No one is really asking. You can have a relationship with anyone so long as that collaboration benefits the Rakyat and not just yourself.

"They wanted to unite the Malays and proposed the House of Malay Unity, another new name similar to the Big umbrella of the opposition. Another delusion, as people know their unity is only for self-preservation, akin to the Gambino family doing a peace deal.

"What’s so glaring in this annual festival is the total absence of self-reflection. They ask no questions of themselves. They don’t talk about their responsibility. They seek no solution to their weakness and irrelevance," Zaid said.

Zaid questioned whether UMNO has urged the governmeny to slow down their love affair with cars. Having 39 million vehicles for a 34 million population is crazy, he said 

"How many must die on the roads before the government acts?" 

He further asked: "Why was there no due diligence on the Armed Forces, whose Chief was about to be confirmed to that position, before the multimillion-dollar corruption scandal broke out?"

He also believed that "these angry men" are not concerned that there could be more cartels in the civil service that remains hidden and protected. Zaid asked why are they not asking questions and demanding answers.

"Why are they so proud of the term limit but couldn't care less if their party's elections are held once every ten years?

"The news from Zahid is the revelation that Anwar loves UMNO. Of course, he does. He has lost more than half of PKR. He has limited Malay support.

"He will want to assimilate UMNO into Madani permanently. Zahid is there to help him.

"Then Khairy (with support from the UMNO progressives) will join the Madani government to beef up Anwar until Khairy and DAP are ready to take over. That’s the plan," Zaid predicted.

"But I wonder where my favourites, Dr Samsuri Wan Saiful Wan Fayshal, Rafizi, and Nik Nadzmi, will be in this scheme?"

MAHATHIR MAY REJOIN UMNO

What Mahathir expected did not happen Initially, Mahathir Mohamad thought his party – PPBM (Bersatu) – could  morph  into a new version of UMNO. After all, it was him who brilliantly destroyed the original UMNO in 1988 and created “UMNO Baru” (the current UMNO version 2.0). But unlike in 1988, Mr. Mahathir had quit UMNO to form PPBM on 8 September 2016, and was no longer in charge of UMNO. UMNO won four times higher than Bersatu in GE14 Hence, after he leveraged on opposition Pakatan Harapan and stunningly defeated the scandal-plagued Najib government, his first priority was  recruiting  UMNO MPs to join his party. Dua tokoh parti politik yang sukar dipisahkan dari imej rasuah , semakin panas bertelagah Rentak Madani 🎵 Akhbar Sinar Harian melaporkan semalam bahawa Ketua Pemuda UMNO, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh mencabar Ahli Majlis Kerja Tertinggi (MKT) UMNO,  Datuk Lokman Noor Adam  supaya berdepan dengannya sama ada di mahkamah ataupun di gelanggang, berikutan tuduhan kononnya beliau mempunyai agenda tersembunyi untuk menaikkan  Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein  sebagai Perdana Menteri. OVERCONCENTRATION OF A MALAY POPULATION MAKES SHAH ALAM A GHOST CITY, SAYS ANALYST

Shah Alam City YESTERDAY, FMT reported that the capital city of Selangor had become very quiet, slow and almost no business, many buildings unoccupied, which one of them only utilised by less than ten staff of a company. Some factories closed down, businesses from petty traders to big timers closed shops for the past six months and so on. Even foreign business people from Indonesia and Pakistan decided to go back to their respective countries or moved to other places. A prominent business analyst, in his blog wrote that one of the reasons for the downfall of Shah Alam was the government's policy in overconcentrating a Malay population in the said city. A lawyer's personal opinion on Tommy Thomas' controversial book

  Read it while you still can REVIEW - *"My Story: Justice in the Wilderness" by Tommy Thomas* SPOILERS (Then again, it's a memoir, so does that really count? But you've been warned). Well I'll cut to the chase. I loved the book. But I think a huge part of why I loved it is because I also happen to be a lawyer, a litigator, and a keen follower of Malaysian politics. It doesn't hurt either that Tommy Thomas' values for the most part, align with mine. It's an honest book, in the sense that he really doesn't bother mincing his words or sparing anyone's feelings (that should be apparent by now, given the number of people who have lodged complaints, filed police reports, and threatened to sue him over the book). Reading it gives you the impression that Tommy Thomas really doesn't care (or if you're French, DGAF).
