FMT: Cops rescue 186 GISBH victims, make 155 arrests

The Inspector-General of Police, Razarudin Husain, said the suspects were being investigated on suspicion of child neglect and trafficking in persons involving a child.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain says the suspects were nabbed in raids on religious schools, clinics and business premises across Peninsular Malaysia.

Police have rescued 102 men and 84 women believed to be victims of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings, and arrested 155 more people in raids across Peninsular Malaysia, FMT reported today.

One of the victims included a child shown in a now viral video being abused by a man allegedly linked to GISBH.

Earlier today, a total of 34 children were rescued and 17 adults arrested in raids on the homes of GISBH members and business premises in Melaka.

The company is at the centre of controversy following complaints of child abuse, sexual abuse and deviant Islamic teachings.

The Inspector-General of Police, Razarudin Husain, said in a statement that 78 men and 77 women were nabbed in raids across Peninsular Malaysia on 82 sites including religious schools, clinics and business premises.

He said the suspects were being investigated on suspicion of child neglect and trafficking in persons involving a child.

Razarudin said police and the Islamic development department had also confiscated brochures that disseminated deviant teachings and items related to superstitions.

Separately in Penang, religious officials seized six books believed to be related to the banned organisation Al-Arqam.

Razarudin said the authorities believed several GISBH members were on the run, as a number of premises were found to be empty during the raids.

The raids come a week after 402 children were rescued from 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan believed to be linked to GISBH. Police also arrested 171 people, including an ustaz and a hostel warden.

According to the police, investigations showed that at least 13 of the children were sodomised or taught to sexually assault others.

GISBH owns supermarkets, minimarkets, bakeries, 120 restaurants and other businesses in Malaysia, the Middle East, Europe and China, according to a 2022 report. It previously said it had discarded its former image as the business wing of Al-Arqam and is currently positioned as a multinational company.
