Pan-gon says his English proficiency is limited, he may not mean dangerous to work in Malaysia

Kim Pan Gon clarified that his limited English proficiency was the reason behind his use of the word "dangerous" when explaining his resignation as Harimau Malaya's head coach, New Straits Times reported.

In a recent post on the RimauXI X platform, the South Korean manager revealed that his initial statement was a result of his limited command of the English language, and not a reflection of any serious concerns.

Pan Gon's statement which had led to various negative perceptions and raised questions among local football supporters was not intended to convey any threat or issue.

A user on the RimauXI X, who attended a discussion involving Pan Gon, the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, and Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi, corroborated this explanation.

According to the user, Pan Gon acknowledges his struggle with the English language during the press conference.

The user added that Pan Gon highlighted the need for a careful examination of certain strategic plans.

"However, there are matters that need to be studied for the strategic plan, and this is not something to be discussed openly in front of the media," the user said.

Pan Gon said that the matter was considered 'dangerous' and was only known to the FAM president, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin.

"I cannot disclose further details about this decision here. It's very sensitive. Datuk Hamidin is aware of everything, but there's no need to inquire further.

"There's no need to ask that question here. Everything has been resolved," he stated at a press conference at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya yesterday.

Previously, Pan Gon resigned from his position as the head coach of Harimau Malaya due to personal commitments despite his contract only ending in December 2025.

The 55-year-old South Korean coach assures his relationship with Malaysian football remains strong despite the resignination and even considers himself 'half-Malaysian'.

Pan Gon said he will continue to support Malaysian football as he has built his legacy here in Malaysia.

Earlier, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim questioned what Kim Pan Gon meant when he said it was dangerous to explain the reason behind his resignation as Harimau Malaya head coach.

The Regent of Johor said that the South Korean should be specific about what he said during the press conference yesterday.

"What's so difficult? Let the lot of them ask him what he meant by saying it is 'dangerous'. The fans, politicians and media. Ask him what he meant by 'dangerous'.

"Be more specific. Scared to be shot? Scared to be kidnapped? Of being kicked? Be direct!" said Tunku Ismail on his official X account.

The crown prince was responding to a posting from social media user @RimauXI who posted a video clip taken from Pan Gon's press conference.

In the video, Pan Gon was responding to a question about what changed since his previous press conference when he reiterated his desire to continue improving Harimau Malaysia's stature.

He responded by saying: "Same answer. I speak to Datuk president ( FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin) every single day. That I cannot talk to you...here...very danger(ous). He knows all the details. So that thing...I must honour each other."

Tunku Ismail also posed a question to the social media user who posted the video clip.

"@RimauXI, you have been to my house before, were you beaten? Bringing the chart about a conspiracy in FAM. But when I asked for evidence, you told me this was all only a theory. So is this all another created conspiracy theory?" said Tunku Ismail.

Pan Gon had yesterday announced his resignation as Harimau Malaya head coach due to personal commitments.

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed that Pan Gon's assistant, Paul Marti Vicente, will now oversee the national team as acting head coach.
