PKR MP supporting Rafizi denies involvement in corruption related to CEO arrested by SPRM (MACC)
Malaysian leading news portal FMT reported a viral video alleging PKR members’ involvement in corruption has prompted a response from Ampang MP Puan Rodziah Ismail (picture, top), who denied claims linking her to a CEO currently under investigation.
Referring to a post on X yesterday, FMT said Rodziah dismissed the video as “malicious” and invited the public to check her parliamentary office bank account.
“Clearly malicious intent … my account can be checked by anyone, especially Ampang voters. You can ask the implementation coordination unit. I welcome it,” Rodziah said.
The unidentified narrator in the video urged Rodziah to check her parliamentary office’s bank account in relation to allegations that also claimed the CEO served as a coordinating manager for the Ampang parliamentary office.
Separately, PKR Secretary-General Senator Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh (picture, above) reiterated that the party would not interfere with ongoing investigations.
“PKR upholds the rule of law and will leave it to the authorities to carry out their duties. We will not compromise with any form of misconduct if proven,” she told the news portal.
Yesterday, it was reported that the CEO of a statutory body had been remanded for five days until 18 April to assist in investigations into a RM1 million bribery case.
According to SPRM, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (known as MACC on English) source, the remand order was issued by magistrate Puan Ezrene Zakaria at the Putrajaya magistrates’ court following an application yesterday.
The CEO, in his 40s, was arrested at about 7.20pm on Monday at a shopping mall in Bukit Jalil, shortly after allegedly receiving RM100,000 from a contractor.
MACC believes the payment is part of a bribe linked to the approval of claims for a RM7 million squash court complex project. The agency is also looking into whether the CEO had received an earlier upfront payment of RM500,000 prior to Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Separately, Youth and Sports Minister Dr Taufiq Johari said his ministry would leave it to the authorities to conduct a holistic investigation.
“We are ready to offer our cooperation if necessary,” said Taufiq, who is also from PKR.
