Yang di-Pertuan Agong's princess appointed Berjaya Property Chairman
Berjaya Property Bhd, formerly known as Berjaya Land Bhd, has appointed Johor princess Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim as its new non-independent non-executive chairman, filling a role that had been vacant for more than two years, business news portal The Edge reported yesterday.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia on Thursday, Berjaya Property said the appointment is effective immediately. Tunku Aminah succeeds Tun Richard Malanjum, who retired on 12 December 2026.
Tunku Aminah, 39, is the only princess of Malaysia’s current King, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
Berjaya Property is controlled by tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, the founder of Berjaya Group. The group’s core businesses include gaming, hotels and resorts, recreational development and vacation timeshares, property investment and development, and luxury motor retailing.
Notably, Tunku Aminah’s appointment to Berjaya Property comes just two days after U Mobile Sdn Bhd, the country’s 5G network provider, named her as its new chairman.
Tunku Aminah and Vincent Tan, through their co-founded Mawar Setia Sdn Bhd, previously completed a share purchase agreement with Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte Ltd (ST Media), giving Mawar Setia a 50% controlling stake in U Mobile. ST Media is a wholly owned unit of Singapore state investor Temasek Holdings.
Yesterday, Thursday 19 March, Berjaya Property said Tunku Aminah has extensive experience leading private organisations across multiple industries and serves on the boards of several other private companies. She also holds the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) franchise in Stulang Laut, Johor Bahru.
The princess currently chairs Berjaya Corporation Bhd, REDtone Digital Bhd, Berjaya Assets Bhd, Berjaya Group Bhd, Berjaya Capital Bhd, Berjaya Hartanah Bhd, Berjaya Japan Developments Bhd, Bukit Kiara Resort Bhd, U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Assembly Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Rail Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Waterfront Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Times Square Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Securities Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Inter-Pacific Securities Sdn Bhd) and Berjaya Mutual Bhd.
Tunku Aminah also holds 702,000 shares in Berjaya Rail, a unit of Berjaya Property.
Shares in Berjaya Property ended half a sen, or 2%, higher at 26 sen yesterday, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM1.3 billion.
