MACC as political weapon used by previous and present governments?

Image
"I knew it"  The Bersih electoral reform group says remarks by the head of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission indicate that MACC (SPRM) had been used as a political weapon. According to today's news report by FMT , Bersih chairman Thomas Fann said that Tan Sri Azam Baki’s remarks had affirmed the group’s suspicions that the MACC had been hindered in its investigations. “And it is very likely MACC was weaponised against political opponents of the governments at the time,” Fann told the news portal.  Last week, Azam said his job was made easier when there was political will from the top, especially from the prime minister. He said the agency faced no roadblocks when choosing to pursue cases. “I don’t have a headache. I can sleep at night. I can’t sleep when people start interfering with my job and ask me why am I investigating this or that,” he was quoted as saying. Video produced by FMT dated April 29, 2023 Fann said that MACC’s independence should be coded in law, a...

Satu  lagi ...

Unity Government may collapse by itself

FOR ANWAR, FRIENDLY FIRE A BIGGER THREAT THAN GOVT-OPPOSITION SHOWDOWN A modern-day Malaysian Rip Van Winkle who woke up from a six-month slumber yesterday could be forgiven for thinking that the country's political landscape had not changed much since the 15th general election (GE15). The polls saw Anwar Ibrahim made prime minister after winning support from several disparate parties. But beyond that, little has changed. The coalition parties Anwar cobbled together had been at loggerheads for the longest time. And they are still at it despite supposedly being on the same political side now. To paraphrase ex-prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, this unholy alliance is like a forced marriage of convenience. He stopped short of saying that this political matrimony is set to crumble – as most marriages not built on trust and love are. And who can blame Ismail when the coalition partners in Anwar's government do not even have the decency to bury their "marital woes" but ch...
