Malaysian chef arrested in Mauritius for trafficking cannabis


A Malaysian chef was arrested in Mauritius for allegedly trafficking 17.88kg of cannabis worth about RM2.18 million found in his luggage.

Reported by Mauritius news portal Defi Media, Malaysian news portal FMT said the suspect was detained last Friday after arriving on a flight from Dubai at 3pm.

Officers seized the suspect’s mobile phone, along with 8,150 Mauritian rupees (about RM700) in cash as well as Malaysian and Thai currencies.

FMT said the news portal also reported that police attempted to identify the intended recipient of the drugs by replacing the seized substances with dummy packages in a sting operation.

However, the sting operation failed when nobody turned up to collect the packages.

This is the second arrest of its kind this year involving a Malaysian in Mauritius.

On 15 September, a 76-year-old Malaysian was arrested at the same airport after arriving from Kuala Lumpur.

Authorities seized 6.18kg of cannabis worth 9.27 million Mauritian rupees (RM793,000) from his luggage.

Shah Alam City YESTERDAY, FMT reported that the capital city of Selangor had become very quiet, slow and almost no business, many buildings unoccupied, which one of them only utilised by less than ten staff of a company.
