Who are the lion, tiger, fox and wolves in Malaysian politics?

Ten Wolves Under the Administration of a Tiger

The Lion put the Tiger in charge of ten wolves

Every day, the Lion brought them eleven pieces of meat. The Tiger divided the food fairly: he kept one piece for himself and gave the other ten, all equal in size, to the wolves—one piece each.

Several days passed, and the wolves began to whisper among themselves in discontent. “Why does the Tiger get as much as we do?” said one.

“He hardly does anything. All he does is hand out the food,” another agreed.

“There are ten of us and only one of him. If we drive him away, we can decide for ourselves who deserves how much.”

The Tiger heard their whispers, but he did not change his rules. He believed that as long as he treated everyone fairly, there would be no reason for rebellion.

But one day, the wolves surrounded him. “We don’t need a leader anymore,” said the boldest among them. “Leave.”

The Tiger had no desire to fight ten wolves. He left the pack and returned to the Lion.

The next day, the Lion appointed the Fox to rule over the wolves.

The Fox received the same eleven pieces of meat. She studied the wolves carefully, set aside three pieces for herself, then gave two more to the strongest wolf.

“From now on,” she said, “you are my deputy.”

She divided three more pieces between the two loudest wolves. “You will be responsible for keeping order.”

Then she threw what remained to the others. The wolves erupted in outrage. “This is unfair! Under the Tiger, everyone received an equal share!”

The Fox smiled. “Then why did you drive him away?”

The wolves fell silent.

And the Fox went on ruling them. Some she rewarded, others she punished, and still others she promised a larger share tomorrow. The strongest wolves were afraid of losing their privileges, so they protected her. The weaker ones were afraid of the strongest and kept quiet.

Some time later, the Tiger met the Lion and asked: “I tried to be fair. Why did they rebel against me, yet remain silent under the Fox, even though she keeps more for herself?”

The Lion replied: “You gave them fairness and assumed they would value it for its own sake. But people and animals alike often begin to treat fairness as something they are simply entitled to.”

“And the Fox?”

“She gave privileges to a few, fear to the others, and rivalry to them all. Now they are too busy fighting among themselves—and too afraid of losing even the little they have—to challenge her.”

The Tiger fell silent, deep in thought.

Then the Lion said: “It is not enough to be fair. You must also know how to make others understand the value of fairness. For what people receive every day without having to struggle for it, they very quickly cease to notice.”

And only after losing a just leader did the wolves understand just how fair he had been.

Moral

We often fail to appreciate honesty and fairness while we still have them. Sometimes people understand the true value of a good and just order only after they have destroyed it with their own hands.
