The latest stance of Zaid Ibrahim
A prestigious Malay daily yesterday reported former Malaysian law minister Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim hopes that the Malaysian Islamic Party, officially known as Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) will follow in the footsteps of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tuan Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Zaid, a new PAS member, said that although Muhyiddin and Syed Saddiq had previously criticized Anwar at the early stage, they now realize the PKR President has the potential to win the next General Election (GE) again.
“There is no need to overthink it because, all things being equal, the Teacher will always be the choice over the Student.
“I congratulate Muhyiddin and Syed Saddiq for supporting Anwar,” Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying via a Facebook post yesterday.
Zaid was a member of various political parties in Malaysia, including UMNO, PKR, Kita and DAP before joining PAS a few months ago.
On Thursday, 29 October, six Bersatu Members of Parliament signed a Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) with the government, which stipulates, among other things, that two major reforms must be implemented by Putrajaya in exchange for their support.
The six lawmakers, led by the Bersatu President, want the government to ensure the Prime Minister’s term limit is restricted and that the roles of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor are separated before the end of the current administration's term.
In return, the six opposition MPs will support the 2027 Budget.
