Termination of Dr. Solehah's Services Proof of No Freedom of Thought at Universities in Malaysia?
A CONTROVERSIAL DECISION AGAINST A CONTROVERSIAL PROFESSOR
Dr Solehah Yaacob's (pictured, top) service as an academic staff member at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) was terminated on 27 April.
This development is quite surprising because it gives the impression that any views that are not in line with those of another party will be silenced by terminating the person's service.
Ideally, a view from a different scientist should be addressed and confronted scientifically as well. Respond with professional papers proving and convincing the public that Dr Solehah's view is incorrect.
Not by dismissing someone while humiliating them arbitrarily. Maybe on the university side, there is an element of lazy thinking or the practice of politicking in an ivory tower.
History has proven that many individuals who were considered crazy or were the laughing stock of society were proven to be right in later times.
Therefore, Permadu Malaysia believes that IIUM's actions are unprofessional and unethical in the context of it being a knowledge institution.
Media in Malaysia referred to a statement from the IIUM Communications, Advocacy and Promotion Office (OCAP) which informed that the use of any title, position or any form of official connection with the university by her (Solehah) is no longer permitted.
The statement further clarified that following the termination, the academician will no longer hold a position as a professor or represent the higher education institution (IPT) in any capacity.
"The ruling also covers the use of titles or positions that link her to IIUM in promotional materials, media reporting, publications and advertising."
"It also includes social media content, publicity materials or other promotional materials, whether directly or indirectly," the Malay-language newspaper Sinar Harian quoted the statement dated yesterday, Sunday, 23 August 2026.
Solehah previously received public attention following several of her controversial views, including on Malay history and civilization.
Through the statement, she claimed that the ancient Romans learned shipbuilding technology from the Malay people.
Most recently, she presented a theory that the wealth of iron ore in ancient Kedah may have stemmed from a meteor shower in the past.
Commenting further, IIUM said that having an explanation regarding Solehah's position can avoid any confusion in the future.
"IIUM hopes that with an explanation regarding Solehah's service status and official connection with the university, this can avoid confusion among the public," the statement said.

Dalam kes Prof Solehah ni, susah nak cakap Boss.... On one hand, I always cherish the freedom of speech/thoughts/views. Tapi dalam kes dia ni saya banyak kali "jatuh kemaluan" disebabkan pandangan dia mengenai kehebatan orang Melayu ni Boss. Kalau dia claim orang Melayu kuat buat anak mungkin saya setuju. Kuat buat anak lain dengan kuat berjimak ya. Orang Melayu mungkin kuat buat anak tapi bab berjimak, ramai yang lemah. Tak caya mung gi jual ubat kuat...berbondong2 Melayu gi beli. Sebab utama mereka hilang keyakinan diri dan tak boleh kontol .....
ReplyDeleteSekarang ni Prof Solehah sudah hilang pekerjaaan. Bolehlah dia team up dengan sorang ustaz Kedah yang bergelar Sheikh Zainul Hasri. Mamat ni pun tak kurang hebat dalam bab menjulang kehebatan orang-orang Melayu. Antara yang dia kata, kayu yang digunakan untuk membuat bahtera Nabi Noh tu datangnya dari belah-belah kampong dia la.....They will make a good team.
