A 55-year-old man has no choice but to work as a Security Guard after spending RM700,000 EPF savings in three weeks

It's up to me to spend RM700,000 of my EPF money in 3 weeks – It's my own money

A retiree spent RM700,000 of his Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings in just 21 days after withdrawing it at the age of 55.

Thus, popular newspaper and news portal Kosmo! featured a story in its broadcast on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.
According to the Malay-language newspaper, the matter was revealed by a man who described the story as a major lesson on the importance of managing finances after retirement.
Using the profile @Badruldinzakaria, the man said that among the individual's major expenses were renovating a house, buying a car with cash, and hosting a child's wedding.
“A valuable lesson from this story. Today, he works as a supermarket security guard to survive.
"The fastest EPF [KWSP] money depletion I've ever heard of," he stated.
The post drew various reactions from netizens who considered the story a warning, though some felt it was the individual's own right.
“Up to the uncle, it’s his money. He must be debt-free too, working a chill job as a security guard. If he keeps the money and passes away later, he won't get to enjoy it," commented @Eikazabidi.
“I want to make monthly payments like a pension when I get my EPF money. You can get dividends if the money stays in the EPF account," said @1975nurulain.

“It’s okay, even if he passes away, at least he got to enjoy the fruits of his labor. The children and family won't be fighting over it," said @Siakap_cheese.
