New Straits Times reported a petrol station owner was fined RM30,000, in default six months' jail, by the Sessions Court in SELAYANG today for selling RON95 petrol to a foreigner.

Judge Puan Nor Rajiah Mat Zain meted out the sentence to Mohammad Naziruddin Abu Hassan, 61, who pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to the charge sheet, Naziruddin, as a scheduled controlled goods licence holder for petrol and diesel, had failed to adhere to the control order.

He had sold 48.8 litres of RON95 petrol to a foreign-registered vehicle from Thailand, an offence that violated Regulation 12A of the Control and Supply Regulations 1974.

The offence was committed at a petrol station at the rest and recreation area of the North-South Expressway (northbound) in Rawang, Selangor, at 9.16am on January 1, this year.

The charge was framed under Rule 21(1) of the same regulations and punishable under Section 22 (1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

It carries a fine not exceeding RM1 million, or a maximum imprisonment of three years, or both, upon conviction.

The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Puan Siti Fatimah Hannah Abd Wahab and Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry prosecuting officer Puan Nor Wahidah Muhammad.

Counsel Encik Muhammad Syahmi Akif Jamili stood for Naziruddin.

The case came to light after a video of two foreigners filling up their vehicle with subsidised petrol went viral.

The ministry subsequently launched a probe into the case.

The petrol station's closed circuit television camera footage showed a man, suspected to be a Thai, paying RM100 at the payment counter for the 48.8 litres of RON95 petrol.

The appearance and act on the above video are for illustration purpose only.
