FMT said Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) have arrested an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman in connection with the discovery of a newborn girl left at the car park of a surau in Taman Universiti, Skudai.
Innocent couple
Johor Bahru Utara police chief Encik Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said preliminary checks showed that neither suspect had a criminal record, and that both tested negative for drugs.
“Both suspects were arrested to assist in further investigations and will be brought to the Johor Bahru court today for a remand order,” he said in a statement.
He said the man and woman were arrested at about 2.15am today.
The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for exposing and abandoning a child under 12 years of age by a parent or guardian.
Yesterday, Radin said the baby girl was found wrapped in a towel with her umbilical cord still intact.
Baby in stable condition
The baby was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
This followed a video posted on the Threads app by user “shahirramohdtalha”, which went viral. In it, the user claimed that his brother-in-law had found the baby, wrapped only in a green towel.
