"You can always tell a teacher by their students"

The parents were determined to find the best possible teacher for their son

One morning, the grandfather took the boy’s hand and set out to find the right school. As they stepped into the first courtyard, a swarm of children surrounded them.

"Look at that funny old man!" one boy shouted, laughing.

"Hey, little fatty!" another yelled, making a face at the grandson.

The kids jeered and jumped around them in a chaotic circle. Just then, the school bell rang, signaling the start of class, and the children vanished inside.

The grandfather gripped the boy’s hand firmly and walked straight back out to the street.

"Hooray! I don’t have to go to school!" the boy cheered.

"Oh, you’re going," the grandfather replied sternly. "Just not to that one. I’m going to find the school myself."

He took the boy back home, left him with the grandmother, and spent the rest of the day searching. Every time he found a school, he would wait in the courtyard for recess. In some schools, the children ignored him completely; in others, they mocked him. Each time, the grandfather silently turned around and walked away.

Finally, he entered a tiny courtyard of a very small school. Exhausted, he leaned against the fence to catch his breath. The bell rang, and the children spilled outside.

"Sir, are you feeling okay? Can I get you some water?" a small voice asked.

"We have a bench over here in the shade, please come and sit down," another boy offered.

"Would you like me to go get the teacher for you?" a young girl asked kindly.

Soon, a young teacher stepped out into the yard.

The grandfather greeted him and said, "Finally, I’ve found the best school for my grandson."

The teacher looked surprised. "I think you’re mistaken, sir. Our school isn’t the best. It’s tiny, cramped, and we have very little."

The old man didn’t argue. He made the arrangements, shook the teacher’s hand, and headed home.

That evening, the boy’s mother asked him, "Father, you never had the chance to go to school yourself. How can you be so sure you’ve found the best teacher?"

"Because," the grandfather replied, "you can always tell a teacher by their students."
