MP Wong Chen urges Government to fully disclose findings on Azam Baki investigation
Last night in his podcast Rafizi Ramli said that he was told by informants in Putrajaya, that a government investigation had found that Azam Baki had bought shares of nine listed companies with a total investment of RM14 million.
I urge the Madani Government to fully disclose the findings of the said special committee set up to investigate Azam Baki. This committee was formed on 13th February, more than a month ago.
Recall this committee members are Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, the Public Service Department Director-General Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz and Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.
When they were appointed, I was unhappy with the composition. The AG was appointed by the YDPA on the advice of the prime minister, the PSD reports to the prime minister and Datuk Johan reports to the finance minister, who is also the prime minister.
In response to their appointments then, I spoke to the media on 14th February and then gave a speech on 15th Feb in front of Sogo, recommending that the investigative committee be led by Tengku Maimun and included an NGO representative, whom I suggested should be Pushpan from C4.
The Madani Government did not do so and until today has consistently refused to have an RCI. In a strange twist, a few days ago, Pushpan was interviewed by Bukit Aman on the alleged plot to topple the government by the Daim family.
I have also heard that tens of CSO members and activists have also been interviewed by Bukit Aman in the last few days. Ironically, this current state of affairs reminds me of the dark days of 1998.
It is not enough to leave the Azam Baki shares episode with the Chief Secretary for further action.
This is not what I signed up for 17 years ago, when I joined PKR.
Transparency and accountability must be upheld. The investigation report of the special committee must be made public. An RCI on Azam Baki shares and allegations of the Corporate Mafia must be held.
