DAP vocal MP condemns stepping on Quran incident


DAP’s vocal politician, Encik RSN Rayer has called for the full force of the law to be applied to the 21-year-old university student who allegedly stepped on a Quran.

Yesterday, FMT quoted the Jelutong MP as saying it was wrong for any Malaysian to mock the religion of another given the nation’s multiracial makeup.

“In Malaysia, every religion must be respected by all citizens of this country. It is wrong for anyone to mock, ridicule or belittle any religion, especially that of another.

In a statement, Rayer reportedly said: “The act of stepping on any religious book, especially that of another faith, is definitely wrong and unacceptable and must be dealt with severely by the law,”

Rayer also lauded the father of the university student for reportedly handing over his son to the police after the incident came to light.

“The father of this student has done the most commendable thing. Let the law take its course now. We must always uphold the rule of law and not take the law into our own hands,” he said.

Earlier yesterday, police arrested a Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah student in Kuantan suspected of insulting Islam on social media after a photograph allegedly showing his foot on a Quran went viral.

The student has been remanded until 28 February to assist in the investigation for wounding religious feelings, sedition, and improper use of network facilities.

The father had filed a police report earlier yesterday, fearing for his son’s safety. He also apologised to all Muslims for his son’s actions.

What Mahathir expected did not happen Initially, Mahathir Mohamad thought his party – PPBM (Bersatu) – could  morph  into a new version of UMNO. After all, it was him who brilliantly destroyed the original UMNO in 1988 and created “UMNO Baru” (the current UMNO version 2.0). But unlike in 1988, Mr. Mahathir had quit UMNO to form PPBM on 8 September 2016, and was no longer in charge of UMNO. OVERCONCENTRATION OF A MALAY POPULATION MAKES SHAH ALAM A GHOST CITY, SAYS ANALYST

Shah Alam City YESTERDAY, FMT reported that the capital city of Selangor had become very quiet, slow and almost no business, many buildings unoccupied, which one of them only utilised by less than ten staff of a company. Some factories closed down, businesses from petty traders to big timers closed shops for the past six months and so on. Even foreign business people from Indonesia and Pakistan decided to go back to their respective countries or moved to other places.   Read it while you still can REVIEW - *"My Story: Justice in the Wilderness" by Tommy Thomas* SPOILERS (Then again, it's a memoir, so does that really count? But you've been warned). Well I'll cut to the chase. I loved the book. But I think a huge part of why I loved it is because I also happen to be a lawyer, a litigator, and a keen follower of Malaysian politics. It doesn't hurt either that Tommy Thomas' values for the most part, align with mine. It's an honest book, in the sense that he really doesn't bother mincing his words or sparing anyone's feelings (that should be apparent by now, given the number of people who have lodged complaints, filed police reports, and threatened to sue him over the book). Reading it gives you the impression that Tommy Thomas really doesn't care (or if you're French, DGAF).
