Mas Ermieyati likely to lead Melaka Bersatu?
Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub, Melaka Bersatu chief |
A Melaka Bersatu grassroots leader said the suspension exemplified Yadzil’s weakness as a leader and failure to manage his own division, according to FMT.
Dr Yadzil, the Bemban assemblyman, is also the state opposition leader and Melaka Perikatan Nasional chief.
“We need a new, stronger and more capable leader to head the state chapter.
"Mas Ermieyati is a seasoned politician, and she needs to take over the state leadership if Bersatu wants to take Melaka in the next state elections," said the insider who told news portal FMT.
The former Puteri UMNO chief Mas Ermieyati, who is also the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, is set to be the new Wanita Bersatu chief after its incumbent, Datuk Seri Rina Harun, decided not to defend the post.
Earlier yesterday, Yadzil claimed there were attempts to sabotage his political career, resulting in the suspension of his Jasin Bersatu division.
Nonetheless, Yadzil, who is vying for a spot on the Bersatu Supreme Council in next month’s party polls, said he was unfazed.
On October 20, media reported that Bersatu’s Jasin division was suspended after it allegedly failed to hold meetings. Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin confirmed the matter and said the division would now be managed and administered by the Supreme Council.
Sources told the news portal that the suspension came after it was discovered that there were branches under the division that had failed to hold meetings despite claiming otherwise.
