Dungun UiTM accident lady driver charged for murder and attempted murder

The woman accused of mowing down four Dungun Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students last Wednesday, causing three deaths, did not have a driver’s licence, says Terengganu police chief Encik Khairi Khairudin.

Bernama reported him as saying 11 people had been questioned so far as part of the investigation, as quoted by FMT.

"The witnesses comprised those who were at the location as well as members of the woman’s family," he said in a press conference at the Terengganu police headquarters.

Khairi said the charges against the mother of three today were made under Sections 302 and 307(1) of the Penal Code for murder and attempted murder on the instructions of the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

"Usually when an incident like this happens, we bring charges under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, but not this time.

"The reason is to take into account the accused may have been conscious but had not stopped the vehicle and had instead dragged the victim up to more than 100 metres, indicating the element to kill was present," he said.

Earlier today, housewife Puan Norizan Ismail, 49, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code at the Dungun magistrates’ court and Section 307(1) of the same Act at the Kuala Terengganu sessions court.

In the incident at 7.35pm last Wednesday in Jalan Pantai, in front of the Dungun UiTM, Norizan was driving a sports utility vehicle and had allegedly crashed into two motorcycles ridden by four students on their way back to campus.

The three who died were Bachelor of Accountancy students Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi and Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, all aged 20, and Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, a Bachelor of Food Service Management student.

Bachelor of Accountancy student Ammar Danish Ridhuan, 20, was injured in the incident.
