In KUALA LUMPUR, Bernama reported, political parties have declared that they are ready to do battle in Sabah following the dissolution of the state assembly yesterday, Thursday 30 July 2020.

The Pakatan Harapan presidential council, represented by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, said in a joint statement the dissolution would return the mandate to the people.

Stating their support for caretaker Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal, they said: “We urge the people of Sabah to support Mohd Shafie and allied parties in the coming state election, to reset national politics by upholding principled politics as well as to reject political party-hopping, and restoring the people’s mandate, where the people’s power is the deciding factor compared to the power of money.”

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki told their Sabah counterparts to be ready for the election. “Be prepared, Sabah Umno Youth. Looks like the battle drums have just sounded,” he said on

PAS Youth chief Khairil Nizam Khiruddin declared its readiness to cooperate with Umno, PPBM and Gabungan Bersatu Sabah (GBS).

“We hope for a big majority in the election so that it will bring stability to the state,” he told Bernama.

Earlier today, Shafie announced that governor Juhar Mahiruddin had agreed to the dissolution of the state assembly to pave the way for a state election, which must be held within 60 days.

Former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman, who claimed on the day before yesterday he had enough support to form a new state government, felt the dissolution was unnecessary and a waste of time and money, and risky for the people in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Indirectly, it looks like he doesn't have a good chance to form a new Sabah government after the state election, which will be held within two months from now.
